For eons, shamans, saints, mystics and people of advanced spiritual knowledge have used nature’s sounds and light from fire to enter higher states of consciousness. Shamans have long taught that nature is a doorway to the spiritual world.
Did you know that being in nature slows our brain waves helping us to reach deeper sub-conscious mind states? It’s worth noting that enlightened teachers, such as Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed, all spent time alone in the wilderness.
By spending even a few hours alone in nature, you can enter a predominant alpha mind state. And, being alone in the wilderness for extended periods of time can entrain your brain to be predominantly in theta and delta. As you immerse yourself in the sounds, colors and smells of nature, your brain waves change to be in sync with the frequencies of nature. The natural frequency of earth is about 7.8 Hz.
In my book, Brain Power: Boost Your Health, Happiness and Spiritual Growth With Practical Tools That Supercharge Your Mind Powers (a mini book on Kindle), I explain how slowing down our brain wave states helps us heal faster, manifest faster and even age slower!
Scientists are now confirming what the ancient ones have known for eons: nature is a powerful healer…
"Many people," says Dr. Eeva Karjalainen, of the Finnish Forest Research Institute, Metla, "feel relaxed and good when they are out in nature. But not many of us know that there is also scientific evidence about the healing effects of nature."
Forests - and other natural, green settings - can reduce stress, improve moods, reduce anger and aggressiveness and increase overall happiness. Forest visits may also strengthen our immune system by increasing the activity and number of natural killer cells that destroy cancer cells.
Many studies show that after stressful or concentration-demanding situations, people recover faster and better in natural environments than in urban settings. Blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and the level of "stress hormones" all decrease faster in natural settings. Depression, anger and aggressiveness are reduced in green environments and ADHD symptoms in children reduce when they play in green settings.
In addition to mental and emotional well-being, more than half of the most commonly prescribed drugs include compounds derived from nature - for example Taxol, used against ovarian and breast cancer, is derived from yew trees, while Xylitol, which can inhibit caries, is produced from hardwood bark.
If you have a forest, desert, chapparal or beach near you, definitely make time to immerse yourself in nature. To get the most out of the healing and empowering forces of nature, spend time alone in nature. And leave the cell and radio in the car! Sounds that are not in nature’s frequency block your ability to slow down your brain waves and enter sub-conscious mind states such as alpha and theta.
What do you do if you can not get to nature?
The next best thing is to do a meditative practice. Whether you use a step-by-step guided audio, or do your own meditative practice, you will positively benefit. If you’re inspired to do a meditative practice while imagining you are in nature, you’ll want to learn about a step-by-step audio that guides you to imagine scenes of nature while you’re in deep relaxed meditative states. One advantage of guided audios is that they help you reach sub-conscious mind states faster.
Commit to spend a few hours in nature alone and I promise, you’ll be thankful you did! You’re energy level will increase, you’ll feel calmer and happier. And if you can do nature at sunrise or sunset, you’ll notice a more powerful effect.
