4 Body Cleanses–Enhance Your Health Plus Much More!

Cleansing diets and fasting protocols are becoming more popular and increasingly necessary due to increasing toxins in our food systems, air, water and environment that weaken the colon, liver and other vital organs.  Eliminating toxins from the body can strengthen the immune system and provide protection against chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease, just to name a few.  Bud did you know that cleansing the body also strengthens the mind and spirit?

In the post, you’ll learn about four cleansing methods, listed from most intense to easy, and the spiritual benefits of one particular cleansing method.

Fasting

Fasting has been largely misunderstood and undervalued in our modern society.  Many people believe that it is dangerous to miss out on a few meals when in reality, it can be amazingly healing! Fortunately, modern science is exploring the health benefits of fasting.

One study done by USC’s Valter Longo, who studies aging and longevity, found that fasting for 3 days or longer–drinking only water and eating less than 200 calories per day–can “reset” some components of your immune system.*  Science suggests that a 2 or 3 day fast can help your body clean out old immune cells and switch on production of new ones.

Fasting, with only water, can help heal the body in astounding ways but it can also increase intelligence and open one up to spiritual truths. Fasting alters your mind, your thinking, your aspirations and ideals for the better. And, it makes you stronger. As you learn how to control the desires of the body, you gain inner strength.

In the classic book Rational Fasting, Arnold Ehret explains that fasting was used by the high priests of old Egypt, by saints who performed miracles and by many of the greatest geniuses of history.   He recounts an interesting story about Pythagoras, the famous Greek philosopher, mathematical genius, scientist and mystic. According to Ehret, when Pythagoras traveled to Egypt to learn more about the “secret sciences,” he was not allowed to enter the school of the High Priests until he underwent a fast of forty days. He was told that the fast was necessary in order that he could grasp what he was going to be taught.

When you fast, you need to know how to break a fast carefully (i.e., know what to eat after the fast ends).  Personally, I think the classic books by Arnold Ehret are a great reference to learn the essentials on fasting and the benefits of fasting that often are not reported.

Parasite cleanse

There are many herbs you can take to help kill off unwanted intestinal infestations that may be affecting your health. Wormwood, black walnut hull, and American wormseed are some of the more common herbs that can be used to eliminate parasites.

Paul Pitchford, in Healing with Whole Foods (another classic on alternative health) details a comprehensive parasite purge program.  Pitchford explains that you have to follow a very precise program when using herbs to safely eliminate parasites.  For example, a herbal parasite cleanse is usually done for 4 to 10 days, then you follow it with a break of 2 to 5 days to allow the parasite eggs to hatch before attacking them again. The cleansing program is repeated for a few weeks to several months, depending on signs of improvement.

I highly recommend Pitchford’s book.  It’s an extensive reference source that explains how to do a thorough cleanse and expands your awareness of healing foods. I have bought this book for many friends; it makes a great gift! Pitchford makes a good point that healing can not fully happen until parasites are eliminated from the body.

As a side note, although using Diatomaceous Earth may not be as thorough as doing Pitchford’s parasite extensive protocol, this natural source of the essential mineral silica, is known to be a natural dewormer that can help eliminate many parasites. According to research reported by UtopiaSilver, Diatomaceous earth can help detox heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses. And, this inexpensive powder is also known to be a digestive aid and colon cleanser.

Master cleanse

This detox method consists of a diet composed only of freshly squeezed lemon juice, organic grade-B maple syrup, cayenne pepper and spring water for a period of 10 days.  Personally, I think it is best to do this cleanse after you have had some experience in fasting–even just doing 2 or 3 days of fasting.  And, it is best to do this cleanse and any fast, when you can have a stress free environment and relax.  It’s ideal to spend time in nature during fasting.

This cleansing diet, like fasting on water, gives your body a much needed break from working so hard.  By consuming only the special Master Cleanser drink, your digestive system can rest from working hard to digest food.  Your body can expend energy instead on eliminating internal impurities.

Due to the massive changes that your body undergoes during the Master Cleanse, it’s important that you end the cleanse carefully.  It is not good to resume eating the same foods you were eating prior to the cleansing diet but rather slowly transition back to your regular diet  Avoid meats and milk for a while as they can be hard for the stomach to digest.

Oxygen colon cleanse

If you are new to the cleansing process, or have a busy schedule and simply are looking for an easy-to-perform, cleanse program that does not require significant dietary changes, then you will want to look into an Oxygen colon cleanse.
